Many are considered to be legends, as well as good role models for the youth of today. There are so many of these writers that are acknowledged in our history books, and there are even a few that have holidays set aside for them. Holidays for the nation to think about their contribution to our world. Although many of the African American writers are no longer alive, their outstanding achievements are still recognized, and taught to many boys and girls in schools all over the nation. Mode Of Production in Marxism
Mode Of Production in Marxism The mode of production is a central concept in Marxism and is defined as the way a society is organized to produce goods and services. It consists of two major aspects: the forces of production and the relations of production. The forces of production include all of the elements that are brought together in production ââ¬â from land, raw material, and fuel to human skill and labor to machinery, tools, and factories. The relations of production include relationships among people and peopleââ¬â¢s relationships to the forces of production through which decisions are made about what to do with the results. In Marxist theory, theà mode of production concept was used to illustrate the historical differences between different societies economies, and Karl Marx most commonly commented on Asiatic, slavery/ancient, feudalism, and capitalism. Karlà Marx and Economic Theory The ultimate end-goal of Marxs economic theory was a post-class society formed around principles of socialism or communism; in either case, the mode of production concept played a key role in understanding the means through which to achieve this goal. With this theory, Marx differentiated various economies throughout history, documenting what he called historical materialisms dialectical stages of development. However, Marx failed to be consistent in his invented terminology, resulting in a vast number of synonyms, subsets and related terms to describe the variousà systems. All of these names, of course, depended upon the means through which communities obtained and provided necessary goods and services to one another. Therefore relationships between these people became theà source of their namesake. Such is the case with communal, independent peasant, state, and slave while others operated from a moreà universalà or nationalà standpoint likeà capitalist, socialist and communist. Modern Application Even now, the idea of overthrowing the capitalist system in favor of a communist or socialist one that favors the employee over the company, the citizen over state, and the countryman over country, but its a hotly contested debate. To give context to the argument against capitalism, Marx argues that by its very nature, capitalism can be viewed as a positive, and indeed revolutionary, economic system whos downfall is its dependence on exploiting and alienating the worker.à Marx further argued that capitalism is inherently doomed to fail for this very reason: the worker would eventually consider itself oppressed by the capitalist and start a social movement to change the system to a more communist or socialist means of production. However, he warned, this would occur only if a class-conscious proletariat organized successfully to challenge and overthrow the domination of capital.

CIPD, People Management & Development - Essay Example The autocrat approaches of managers gave way to democratic approaches. More and more scientific methods implemented in the employee organization relationships. Modern century witness changes in every aspect of human life. Fast developing technologies and new thoughts developed after cold war changed the complexion of human life. Scientific methods are applied everywhere and the business arena also not an exception. Rapid changes in business strategies is taking place in order to explore the possibilities of new liberal world as well as due to the competition in the market. The Human Resources departments are also no exception. Out of the 4 Mââ¬â¢s of an organization, Man, Material, Machine and Money, I think Man or the human resources are the most important entity. Competitive employees will always be an asset to organizations. Even if the other resources of the company are less, still only the smart employees can utilize it to ensure maximum productivity. If the employees are not competent enough then they will always complain about the resources which are not available rather than utilizing the existing ones. I have seen some examples in our company itself, in which some smart workers utilizing the available resources to ensure optimum production. Though our company is engaged in construction activities, as you know we donââ¬â¢t have enough resources and modern equipments to explore the available construction market, positively. Our equipments need to be modernized based on the requirements in order to compete in the market with quantity and quality. One of our regular clients has approached me with a job few months before. As soon I seen the specifications, I concluded that this job is not possible by us and at the same time I was not willing to disappoint the customer as he was a regular one giving us around 10% of our annual volume of works. I have discussed this project with our expert people and enquired about the possibilities of

Strategic Management Involvement Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Strategic Management Involvement - Essay Example This pattern in decisions as well as actions clearly defines what Mintzberg called "realized" strategy. The examples given below clearly describe the situations in which this realized strategy will completely fail: External analysis is clearly described by Fahey and Narayanan (1986), they imply that organizations always in order scan the environment to recognize the ever changing trends and new patterns, keep an eye on all the specific trends as well as patterns, estimate the future course of the monitored changes and patterns, and then in the analysis the organizational impact these changes and patterns will have on the organization (Dolence etal 1997). Merged long with internal analysis of the organization's, well defined vision , mission statement , strengths, and weaknesses, external analysis greatly helps decision makers in creating strategic directions as well as strategic plans. The first and foremost goal of environmental scanning is to make the decision makers aware of the potentially important external changes long before they take shape so that decision makers have enough lead time to act in response to predicted the change. Therefore, environmental scanning plays a very important role for the organizations to manage change (Capon 1987). Environment Domains is a very board area, External environment refers to those people, resources, leadership and communication structures existing outside the organizational structure which may involve the following sector Industry sector Raw material sector Financial sector Market sector Technology sector Government sector International sector Internal and External Analysis Internal analysis of the organization is a practice that to help us to identifying the Strengths and weakness of the company, which point out some key factors that able the organization to get a better advantage of the market. The resistance of a wire varies with its length Essay Example for Free
The resistance of a wire varies with its length Essay To investigate how the resistance of a wire varies with its length Equipment Needed: o power pack o 5 wires o Voltmeter o Length of wire o Ruler o Ammeter o Crocodile clip Circuit Diagram: Prediction: The equation V=IxR is how you find the resistance rate. Im now going to re-arrange it to R= V for this to work the temperature has to stay I Constant or it will not work. So I predict that if I increased the length of the wire the resistance will be increased. So I think that if you double the length of the wire the resistance will be doubled. Method: o Collect the equipment and set up the circuit by measuring the wire o Turn on the power pack. o Slowly increase the power o Connect the crocodile clip onto the copper wire to make the circuit complete. o Using a ammeter to measure the amount of current in the circuit o Using a voltmeter to measure the amount of voltage across the circuit o Record results Repeat this with all the different lengths on the wire. Also on the experiment make sure that you read the meter from directly in front by using parallax. Another thing makes sure that the needle is not moving around this then makes the measurement correct. Fair Test: To make this a fair test Im going to keep everything the same in each test apart from the length of wire. The wire will be the same thickness and material every time. Safety: Its important that the wire does not get to hot that it burns. To prevent this from happening I wont let the current go any higher than 2amps. Preliminary work: Current (A) Measurement (CM) Voltage (V) 2. 0A 10CM 0. 4 1. 5A 10CM 0. 3 1A 10CM 0. 2 0. 5A 10CM 0. 1 Current (A) Measurement(CM) Voltage(V) 2. 0A 90CM Off scale 1. 5A 90CM 3. 4 1. 0A 90CM 2. 5 0. 5A 90CM 1. 0 We decided not to use a current of 2 Amps because it melts the wire. The other thing was we decided not use 90CM because one of the readings was off the scale. Practical Results: Length (CM). Current (A) Voltage (V) Corrected Resistance ( ) CorrectedLength (CM) Current (A) Voltage (V) Corrected Resistance ( ) Corrected Length (CM) Current (A) Voltage (V) Corrected Resistance ( ) Correctedà Our meter read 0. 1V even when no circuit was connected so I had to take this reading off all the results which is why there is a corrected column. Length (CM) Average resistance (ohms) Conclusion: I have noticed that as the length of the wire increases the resistance also increases. This happens because: This all happens because the resistance has doubled like I said in my prediction. I checked this by looking on my graph E. g. 20CM= 0. 44 40CM=0. 88 80CM=1. 76 See each time it has doubled. Evaluation: We found out that there was an error in our voltmeter which meant our first point was on 0. 1. This made our results incorrect which meant we had to re calculate the numbers. We read all our results to one decimal point instead of two. I have an Anomalous point at 20cm. I can see from my results there was a error at 15amps. If I ignore this result and take an average of 0. 5+1. 0amps I get a point that lies on my line. I have shown this on my graph in red. This error accrued by reading the metre wrong. A formula for parish practice Essays -- Legal Issues, Wengert
Wengert in his ââ¬Å"A formula for parish practiceâ⬠book, indicated the dispute over the relation between faith and works can be traced back to an attack on the Lutherans by John Eck prior to the Diet of Augsburg 1530 ( 63). Eck claimed that evangelicals ban good works from their teaching and preaching, later this phenomena grid Melanchthon to come up with the 20th article in the Augsburg confession. The reality that the leipzing Interim failed to use the phrase ââ¬Å"faith loneâ⬠upset the Bishop of Naumburg , Von Amsdrof lead up to writing a tract against the Leipzing Interim. Later George major came up with Sermon that implies good works are necessary for salvation. George Major writings in favors of the absolute necessity of good work for salvation lead up to the emergence of Majortistic controversy. As Luther predicted what controversies will inevitably arise after his death; many reformers would compromise and sell out to the papacy. Luther prediction turned true and many controversies had arose from within and without, among these is the Majoristic controversy that named after George major who was the chief proponent of the idea that enunciate good work justifies. The Majoristic controversy was in fact started before the death of martin Luther and later intensified ( ). George major was a Lutheran theologian who lived from 1502-1574. He was one of the several theologians who joined Melanchthon in making concession to Rome. There is no way we can measure faith. However, good work can sometime be measured, in physics we can calculate work by multiplying the force applied to certain object by the distance traveled. Faith is not something we produce, reduce, earn or donate; generally we do not have control over faith. It is... ...ng of the Lordââ¬â¢s Supper should not be general but should be specific and personal; each recipient should understand why and how they should receive the true body and blood of Christ. GameStop POP Displays Essay
I recently went to a retail shop near my house to observe a number of things about point of purchase of a number of items displayed. I visited the store which was one of the most talked about in my area so tempted to try that place I paid a trip to GameStop, being only a quarter mile away from my house. Upon entering the shop I was fascinated by the size and the rush of the people at the store. At that spur of moment I realized that this place will most definitely possess a variety of items at display. As I moved around I noticed there was adequate space for the crowd to view each and every display. But obviously there were certain items that really attracted people for various reasons, either out of curiosity or genuinely being interested in the displayed matter. After a whole walk through of the GameStop store, I counted and checked with the reception that there were 22 displays to ensure I dint miss out any of them for my observation. The object that really caught my attention was the Guitar Hero World Tour as it was the first display I stood and the longest. This is because the minute I entered the shop, the item was right in front so it was unlikely that anyone would have missed it. Also owing to the fact that high definition television with surround sound is one of my interests but the facility to reserve a copy of my own and the date of when it will be released really impressed me. To my disappointment Little Big Planet was really unsuccessful, not just in my view but the general public as well. No release date was mentioned so there was no point pondering over it. Maybe thatââ¬â¢s why it was displayed at a dimly lit area, right at the back of the store. Also being stacked being other displays just made it even more difficult to reach out to it. I even went up to the store manager to get a better insight on how they operated the POP display. As a layman I questioned him over POP displays and trade allowances on which he was well informed. He mentioned that POP displays were used as means of sales promotion and getting the customer in the game shop. For example Play Station 3 was prominently situated right at the center of the store so that most of the customer traffic gathered around there, in that way once they were done with having a feel of Play Station 3, they will have to go through other products, in this way maneuvering the customers. But not all items were displayed according to the manager who suggested that 10% were not used to allow other unpopular games to be made accessible for a segmented market. Store size was also not big enough to cater all the products that is why it is critical to determine which items need to be displayed. This determination is also done by the upper management on the basis of the location and size of the store. Though one troubled factor for the manager was that a booklet was the foundation of setting up a display (Source: POP Display) Similarly trade allowance was used as means of offering negotiated price for the customers to feel tempted to purchase the product as such lucrative offers are not available every other time. Another way how trade allowance helped was that sales personnel made good efforts to sell their respective products. Surprisingly the manager hardly knew about the practicality in applying trade allowance theory on GameShop store as upper management simply kept this information to themself. In this way the manager really felt frustrated on the inability to understand how and why certain reasons are considered acceptable to the upper management while he might disagree. (Source: Trade Allowance) As I see lack of ownership has really got the level of performance below, which could really be avoided to enhance sales as more and more products would have been presented in a better manner. Health and Safety Annual Report 2008/2009 Report No: 2 J Coffey Construction LtdIt should also be noted that, while important, the measurement of the accident rate is a measure of failures, not successes. However although there has been a slight rise in the reporting of accidents the Accident Incident Rate and the Accident Frequency Rate has decreased over the reporting period in relation to the number of employees to the previous year. The Health and Safety Department agrees to use the new Method Statement Proforma and all introduced check sheets to achieve uniformity throughout the company as a performance measure tool together with the new Health and Safety Table. 4.Raising the Profile of Health and Safety The Health & Safety Manager issues monthly health and safety bulletin sheet from The Worksafe Partnership Ltd and his own, providing news of new policies and other health and safety matters of interest as well as e-mailing information from the HSE Website on relevant subjects. How To Pronounce Divisive
How To Pronounce Divisive How To Pronounce Divisive How To Pronounce Divisive By Maeve Maddox A reader has called my attention to the changing pronunciation of divisive: I am very active in politics and frequently watch television programs which feature political topics.à One of THE most frustrating- and very common- mispronunciations I hear is with the word divisive.à I was taught that it is pronounced with a long i on the second syllable- ie: resulting in it having the same, long i sound as the word divide. Many seemingly well-educated and otherwise intelligent people pronounce it with a short i sound on the second syllable.à I have checked my hard-copy dictionaries, and they all back up my pronunciation of the word. Am I so backward that I missed out on a revolutionary new way to pronounce this word?à If not, why do so many people pronounce it incorrectly?à Do they believe it makes them appear cool- or part of an exclusive club- or something?!à Do you know when- and why- this trend started? The reader hasnââ¬â¢t missed any new ruling on how to say divisive. The standard pronunciation is still with a long i in the second syllable: di-VY-siv. Charles Elster (The Big Book of Beastly Mispronunciations) devotes two cantankerous pages to the misguided ââ¬Å"short-iâ⬠divisive, establishing the credentials of the ââ¬Å"long-iâ⬠pronunciation by citing various dictionaries. He remarks that the first time he noted the nonstandard pronunciation in the context of politics was in 1989 in G. H. W. Bushââ¬â¢s inaugural address. Within fifteen years, ââ¬Å"the erroneous pronunciation,â⬠as Elster calls it, had begun to infect otherwise careful speakers, including Robert Siegel, cohost of NPRââ¬â¢s All Things Considered, who twice said [di-VIH-siv] during an interview that aired on August 30, 2004. Elster suggests that the short-i pronunciation may have what he labels ââ¬Å"the my-pronunciationââ¬â¢s-better-than-yours appealâ⬠for some individuals, but that careful speakers will continue to pronounce the second syllable of divisive with a long i. European Union business law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
European Union business law - Essay Example This forms the centrality of the European Unionââ¬â¢s rules on the free movement of persons. However, looking at the nature of the creation of the European Union, the laws on the free movement of persons were thought of to be applicable to only persons who moved to other member states to do economic activities like working3. However, in the landmark case of Van Duyn V Home Office4 it was identified that Article 45 of the TFEU had a vertical direct effect and hence, it could be enforced by any citizen of the European Union. It also applies to all legal relationships by members of the European Union5. In the application of sub-section 2 of TFEU Article 45, a ââ¬Å"workerâ⬠is a person who performs services of an economic value for and under the direction of another in return for remuneration6. Thus, there is a protection under this provision implies that a worker is protected from all kinds of discrimination that might exist in relation to his stay and continuous provision of services that he provides in another Member State. Unemployed citizens of a Member State can enter another Member State in search of a job under Article 45(3). And to this end, a person could be in another Member State for a reasonable period of time in The State V Royer7 was defined to be a period of up to six months. Family members of a worker in another Member State are also empowered by Article 2(2)(c) of Directive 2004/38 to live with their dependent children under the age of 21 and their dependent spouses who are not working. Article 10 of Regulation 492/2001 provides equal rights to these dependents connected to a person. Article 2 of Regulation 1612/68 which was replaced by Directive 2004/38 guarantees the rights of spouses, registered partners, descendants and ascendants of EU nationals working in another Member State that is not their primary home8. Korb v. Raytheon Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Korb v. Raytheon - Essay Example This research will begin with the statement that Korb was a former Secretary of the Defense between 1981 and 1985, later he joined Raytheon Corporation, which supplied equipment to the army, navy and air forces of the US. For a short period, Korb was appointed as the Vice-President since he could strongly influence the Department of Defense and Congressmen whom he had worked with earlier. The President of Raytheon appointed Korb as the VP in Washington as he felt that Korb had a strong public image and his presence could politically and publically help Raytheon to develop itself. Korb also joined a nonprofit organization titled Committee for National Security (CNS) in December 1985 and this was the organization concerned with the prevention of nuclear armament. One day Korb spoke at a press conference related to defense budgets; he was quoted in the dailies which stated that he was critical of high defense budgets and urged the government to spend less for warships and carriers. His statement was not taken well by the Department of Defense and many of the high-end defense officials complained to Raytheon about Korb's statements. Korb wished to clarify on the statements but in March 1986 his company relieved him of his post. He was given the choice of remaining in office as a special advisor, but at all future speeches, he would have to obtain prior consent. Raytheon also made it clear that Korb would not work in coordination with the Defense Department anymore. Korb was never happy with the deal given by Raytheon, and, hence, in 1987 filed a case to Massachusetts state civil court for a wrongful termination. He cited both the Massachusetts state laws concerning civil rights and the First Amendment of the Constitution in support of his opposition. However, Raytheon wanted the case to be heard on a bigger platform and moved the case to the Federal District Court located in Boston. In order to ensure that he still could win the case, Korb changed his complaint and removed the references to the First Amendment. Since there was no federal involvement, the case was sent back to the Massachusetts state court. The Massachusetts court gave the judgment in favor of Raytheon, though Korb had the freedom of speech. Korb was in fact hired to work as an advocate and spokesperson of the company and if he brought the company in a bad light, then he was ineffective, and the company was right to have fired an ineffective employee. Here Korb was not acting privately as it was his duty to bring about a good public image of Raytheon and by posing that the defense budgets had to be lowered, he was, in fact, tarnishing the name of the company. A company can pursue any legal and ethical cause as it was seen that Korb was harming the name of his company. Korb could be accused of being inefficient and publicly spoiling the name of his company. Korb, in general, had a right to freedom of speech but in this case, his speech directly interfered with his role in the c ompany, for which the court granted the case in favor of Raytheon. Challenges with freedom of speech The court agreed that any person, including Korb, had the right to deliver a speech on a matter of public concern, including nuclear spending. Korb was basically hired to be a spokesperson with Raytheon and if he spoke against Raytheon, it did not interfere with his freedom of speech but was in direct conflict with his role at Raytheon. Hence, Raytheon could dismiss him for being ineffective at his work and, thus, his dismissal could not be considered a wrongful termination.
